High or Tall?

Postby God » Mon Mar 28, 2016 9:17 pm

Most of us use these terms interchangeably, however, there is a clear difference between the two.

We use the word HIGH when you are talking about a distance of a point from the ground or when talking about the distance from the top to bottom. It is usually used to talk about non-living things, or concepts or to describe something that is difficult to reach. For instance

The mountains are high
The light switch was too high for the young child
The wall was too high for the theif to climb.

Tall on the other hand is usually used for measurements or describing the heights of people.

He is 6 feet tall.
The ceiling is 10 metres high. (Here we are talking about reach)

Hope that helps!!
